Assistant Dairy Farm Officer (2 posts) in the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences [Ref. R/094/24]
Duties
- Performing routine farm work and cattle husbandry;
- Milking of dairy herd and performing mastitis prevention;
- Conducting estrus observation and assisting with routine herd management;
- Preparing and feeding of total mixed ration to cattle;
- Observing and caring of calving cows;
- Feeding and caring of newborn calves;
- Preparing of bedding of cattle pens;
- Loading and unloading of feed, bedding and other raw materials;
- Handling and restraining cattle during veterinary procedures and teaching practicals;
- Assisting with teaching of cattle husbandry to veterinary students during extra-mural studies;
- Assisting faculty staff and researchers to facilitate their on-farm studies;
- Performing routine farm cleaning and maintaining tidiness and appearance of farm;
- Assisting in other farm tasks as directed by the Farm Manager including driving small loadshifting vehicle (skid steer) and cleaning cattle barns; and
- Performing any other duties as assigned.
Working out of hours and on call will be required.
Requirements
5 passes in HKCEE/HKDSEE, including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics, with a post school qualification in Agriculture or related disciplines with at least 2 years’ relevant experience (experience driving agricultural machinery including small loadshifting vehicles (skid steer) would be advantageous but training can be provided). Excellent command of written and spoken English and basic computer skills are required.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
