The Office of Mainland Affairs (OMA) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) invites applications for the position of Assistant Director (Strategic Initiatives & Projects). We seek a highly skilled and proactive individual to support senior management and lead special projects that advance HKUST's Mainland strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
As an integral member of the team, the Assistant Director will be responsible for supporting the Director in the following areas:
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Contribute to the planning, organization, and execution of key initiatives and events that advance HKUST’s Mainland strategy.
- Initiative Development: Develop and implement strategic marketing plans to enhance awareness and engagement with university initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and promoting transparency in communications.
- Administrative Leadership: Plan and coordinate budgets and resources; support committees by preparing papers and reports; review and administer Mainland-related policies, services, and activities; manage special projects; provide advice and execute various duties under the auspices of the Director; and maintain accurate records to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Collaboration and Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain relationships with relevant departments, e.g. the National Health Commission, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, peer Mainland universities, medical research institutions, and industry partners to promote educational and research collaborations aligned with HKUST’s strategic objectives.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Coordinate with various departments across the university to ensure cohesive implementation of initiatives and strategic projects, fostering teamwork and mutual support among colleagues.
- Other Duties: Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, while maintaining a commitment to supporting colleagues and upholding the core values of the university.
Requirements:
The successful candidate should possess:
- A bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public administration, or a related field;
- Substantial years of post-qualification experience in public relations, event planning, research or business development, with a proven track record in a supervisory role;
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua);
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage a diverse range of stakeholders;
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment; and
- Experience in engaging in strategic collaborations with large state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Mainland China, particularly within higher education institutions and research universities, is highly preferred.
(Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
