We invite applications for the position of full-time Junior Research Assistant for a project funded by the Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (Promoting Innovative Technology in Education) to develop a gender ‘conscious’ AI-assisted Chatbot for learning social statistics (Part I: elementary level).
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above in Sociology, Social Sciences or related disciplines from a recognised university; (ii) excellent command in written and spoken English; (iii) the ability to work independently; (iv) attention to detail, sense of responsibility, high motivation, and an interest in pedagogical research. Those who have good statistical knowledge or/and former experience exploring ways AI can assist higher education learning process will be an advantage.
Appointee(s) will be responsible for (a) analysing the data collected from the project and assisting in drafting a short report on the focus groups findings; (b) coordinating the production of one micro module and training manual (for teachers) about growth mindset and statistics anxiety; (c) supervising student helpers who are tasked with the production process; (d) assisting in the creation of new resources for teaching elementary social statistics such as designing mini-tasks and respective guidelines for use in class activities and for interactive learning with Generative AI; (e) assisting the Principal Investigator(PI) and Chief Investigator(CI) in coordinating with CUHK Knowledge and Education Exchange Platform(KEEP) to develop a new Chatbot web application for teaching and learning social statistics. Including but not limited to generating the training materials for developing the new Chatbot web application; (f) assisting the testing of the new Chatbot web application in a statistics workshop; (g) designing a survey to evaluate the effectiveness of the new Chatbot web application by collecting students’ feedback; (h) supporting project administration, such as assisting in the drafting of the progress report and final report, and drafting conference/exhibition papers; and (i) performing other related tasks as assigned by the PI and Co-supervisor.
