(Senior) Actuarial Analyst

About the Role
 
Our actuarial analysts will have opportunities to immerse themselves in a fast-paced startup environment and to gain hands-on experiences in the diverse functions of an insurance company, and different aspects of an actuary’s work. If you are looking for an opportunity to work in a cross-disciplinary team within a dynamic startup environment while preparing for a career as an actuary, this will be a valuable experience.

We are a lean team of 4 (including you!) and you will be reporting directly to our Chief Risk Officer and Appointed Actuary [link removed]. On top of gaining hands-on experiences, you will also get to see the bigger picture and be involved in the decision-making process. At the core of this, you’d be working with experienced actuaries every day, and some of your tasks will include:
 

You will be responsible for

• Building out the actuarial function's 3 main areas of 1. Core Actuarial Reporting 2. Financial Analysis & Projections 3. Management Reporting
• Actuarial projects (e.g. IFRS 17, RBC)
• Special financial analysis (e.g. Capital/Reinsurance Strategy, fund raising initiatives, capturing unique market opportunities)
• Additional project involvement may include financial analysis, business plan projections, fundraising support, and pricing support - depending on your interests and business priorities!

Roughly, the composition of your task will be as follows:

• Statutory & management reporting (50%)
• Financial projection & modelling (40%)
• Special projects (10%)

The success of this role will be measured by:

• Timeliness of deliverables
• Quality of deliverables (accuracy, consistency)
• Communication (turning all the data into useable information)

About You

You are a system thinker, and problem solver with strong written communication skills, who / with
 

• (senior analyst) 2-4 years of insurance industry experience in valuation, financial modeling.
• Preference for candidates with at least 2 completed actuarial exams
• Fresh graduates are also welcome and will be considered for an analyst role
• Good understanding of insurance company operations
• University degree in Actuarial Science or equivalent is good to have but not necessary
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail; responsible, proactive with good interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, in particular, MS Excel
• Knowledge of Python and/or programming is definitely an advantage
• Non-traditional actuarial mindset
• Energetic personality and good team player - we move fast and we leave no one behind!
• Candidates with more experience will be considered for a Senior Analyst role!
