Job Description

The German Swiss International School (GSIS) is one of Hong Kong's leading international schools providing quality, holistic education to a multinational student body of approximately 1300 students and 240 faculty and staff. The school is organised into two Streams, German and English leading to qualifications in the German International Abitur and I/GCSE & IBDP respectively. We are inviting applications for the following position commencing in August 2025.

CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHER (PART TIME, 20 LESSONS PER WEEK)

The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher of Chinese (Putonghua) as a foreign language who is dedicated to enabling each child to achieve the highest possible standards. You will be expected to be up to date with current best practice in teaching and learning of foreign languages to primary age students, including ongoing formative assessment strategies.  You will be a dynamic, open-minded and enthusiastic teacher, who provides learning opportunities to meet the needs, abilities and developmental stages of every student. You will be committed to pedagogical approaches which give each student the opportunity to experience success, and which challenge all students to achieve their full potential.

What is required and what we’re looking for 

Essential:

  • Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) in Primary Education 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching Chinese (Putonghua) as a foreign language
  • Excellent knowledge of Pinyin and simplified Chinese characters
  • Excellent English speaker with sound written and oral communication skills 
  • Experience in working collaboratively with a team
  • Culturally sensitive, tolerant and patient
  • Positive work ethic and proactive

Desirable

  • Experience teaching in an international context
  • Experience of conceptual enquiry
