Job Description

The managing editor will oversee the journal office with the primary responsibility of managing the day-to-day operation of the journal, as well as English technical editing for about 5 articles per month. This role requires frequent and prompt contact with authors, reviewers, the publisher, Editors-in-Chief, and Editorial Board Members, with assistance from an editorial associate and an editorial assistant.

Responsibilities:

  • Help promote the APJO journal
  • Help recruit of quality manuscripts and invite reviewers for new submissions.
  • Oversee operations of APJO journal, including budget formulation, resource planning, project management / development.
  • Editorial work on scientific manuscripts for adherence to the assignment, and consolidate completed reviews for the decision of Editors-in-Chief.
  • Analyze and monitor the journal’s performance including citations and impact factor.
  • Monitor and Coordinate with all key persons (authors, reviewers, photographers, designers etc.) to produce publications on time.
  • Prepare proposals, executive reports, and protocols for side projects when necessary.
  • To perform other tasks as delegated by the Editors-in-Chief

Requirements:

  • University graduate with strong English and ability to perform English technical editing; scientific literacy will be an advantage
  • At least 5 years’ work experience demonstrating mastery of academic written English, including working with researchers who have English as a second language and technical editing of scientific text / illustrations, preferably for scientific, technical, or medical journals / books
  • Candidates with less experience will be considered as “Editorial Associate” .
  • Excellent command of English, fluency in Mandarin is advantage
  • Able to work as a team member and a leader and under pressure at times
  • Professional editing certification, understanding / work exposure in academic journal publishing is an advantage
  • Be PC proficient with expertise in Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel)

This is a full-time position with 5-day work per week. Work location will be in Central, Hong Kong. We offer competitive remuneration package, fringe benefits, and overtime allowance. Candidates with less experience can be considered as Deputy Managing Editor.
