Project Engineer/ Research Engineer (Hybrid Strategies for AI-based Safety Assurance) (Ref. No.: CAiRS-R29-R30/P4.2)

Duties
The appointees will report to the Project Leader and the Centre Director or his designate (currently Assistant Programme Manager) and perform research and related work in the research - Hybrid strategies for AI-based safety assurance. The project will be involved in development and implementation of algorithms with artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analytics for safety and reliability in the area of “smart manufacturing and inspection”.
For the post of Project Engineer/ Research Engineer, the appointee will be required to:
- Study the implementation of various data acquisition methods (e.g., ultrasonic detection and computer vision for defect detection) by computational simulation and proof-of-concept (PoC) tests;
- Develop and troubleshoot both hardware and software for collecting data and conduct field tests;
- Prepare prototype of the system for R&D and demonstration purposes;
- Assist team members for the data analysis, machine learning programming, dashboard design, and preparing documents (e.g., proposals, reports, papers and patents); and
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Centre Director or his delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants for the post of Project Engineer/ Research Engineer should have a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering or a relevant discipline. Experience in design and conduct experiments is a plus.
For the post, applicants should also have/be:
- Strong hands-on experience for (a) developing and troubleshooting both hardware and software, (b) design and conducting experiments, and (c) making prototypes;
- Experiences of using CAD and simulation tools;
- Strong problem-solving and self-learning capabilities, with proven product mindset;
- Strong communication and collaborative skills, and adept at handling multiple projects and deadlines efficiently; and
- Experience of data processing, machine learning programming, software implementation and dashboard design being an advantage.
