Workman II (Civil Service Vacancy)

Salary: Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 0 (HK$15,175 per month) to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 8 (HK$17,880 per month)

Entry Requirements: 
Candidates should -
(a) have completed Primary 6 education, or equivalent;
(b) be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English; read simple Chinese and simple English; and write simple Chinese or simple English; and
(c) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST).

(Remark: Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.)

Notes:
(i) Workmen II are subject to posting and transfer within the department or in other bureaux/departments to fill vacancies and carry out different duties in the same grade when the need arises. 
(ii) Workmen II are required to work shifts, wear uniform and, when necessary, perform overtime work. 
(iii) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and National Security Law.  A pass result in the BLNST is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs.  Only those candidates who have passed the BLNST will be considered for appointment.
(iv) For candidates who have not taken the relevant BLNST or have not attained a pass result in the relevant BLNST at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant BLNST during the recruitment process.

Duties: A Workman II is mainly deployed on –
(a) general manual labour work including cleansing, moving furniture and equipment, loading and/or packing printed matters, bulky stores and supplies items;
(b) messengerial duties including indoor/outdoor collection and delivery of documents, stores and stationery items;
(c) simple office work including operating photocopying machines, fax machines, binding machines, and sorting and/or binding documents; and
(d) general administration support duties including opening and locking of exits, manning reception counters, provision of pantry services and assisting in the setting up of meeting venues. 

Terms of Appointment: A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

The new version of application form for Government jobs G.F . 340 (Rev . 7/2023) has been in use with effect from 26 July 2023.  Candidates who apply for Government jobs advertised on or afte r 26 July 2023 should use the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023).  If candidates submit the old version form (G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)), they will be required to fill in the new G.F . 340 (Rev . 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request.  If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further.

Completed application forms , together with photocopies of certificates and transcripts in support of the academic qualifications (both local and non-local) and supporting documents of relevant working experience  (if applicable), should reach the Appointments Unit, Government Logistics Department, 10/F , North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong not later than 21 November 2024.  Please state on the envelope “Application for the post of Workman II”.  The postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application.  To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting.  Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate.  Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage.  Applicants may also apply online through the Civil Service Bureau’ s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).  Candidates who apply online should submit supporting documents to the above address not later than 28 November 2024 (the online application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of all supporting documents).  Please ensure that sufficient postage is paid. Applications which are incomplete, late, submitted by fax or email, not duly signed, not made in the prescribed form, or without the required supporting documents will not be processed.

Candidates who are selected for trade test/interview will normally receive an invitation in about ten to twelve weeks from the closing date for application.  This period may be longer in exceptional circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received or when there are other complications.  Those who do not receive an invitation may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
