An Infrastructure Support Engineer is responsible for maintaining and supporting the IT infrastructure of an organization. This includes ensuring the smooth operation of servers, networks, and other critical systems, troubleshooting issues, and implementing updates and improvements to keep the infrastructure secure and efficient.
### Roles and Responsibilities (R&R)
1. **System and Network Maintenance**
- Monitor and maintain the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and storage systems.
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software, and hardware.
- Perform regular system updates, patches, and security configurations.
2. **Troubleshooting and Support**
- Respond to and resolve infrastructure-related incidents and service requests in a timely manner.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues.
- Provide technical support to internal users and ensure minimal disruption to business operations.
3. **Performance Monitoring and Optimization**
- Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks and other issues.
- Implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the infrastructure.
4. **Security and Compliance**
- Implement and maintain security measures to protect the infrastructure from threats.
- Perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
5. **Documentation and Reporting**
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of the infrastructure, configurations, and procedures.
- Generate reports on system performance, incidents, and other metrics.
- Document troubleshooting steps and solutions for future reference.
6. **Collaboration and Communication**
- Collaborate with other IT teams and business units to support projects and initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates and gather requirements.
- Work with external vendors and service providers as needed.
7. **Continuous Improvement**
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
- Participate in continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
- Suggest and implement improvements to existing systems and processes.
### Requirements
1. **Education and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in IT infrastructure support or a related role.
2. **Technical Skills**
- Proficiency in operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and Unix.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, hardware, and software.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
- Understanding of database management and storage systems.
3. **Soft Skills**
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
4. **Certifications**
- Microsoft Certified System engineer (MCSE)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+.
5. **Other Requirements**
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours as needed.
- Strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Working Hours
- Standard working hours are typically from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
- The role may require on-call support for emergencies, system maintenance, or updates outside of standard working hours.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to ensure 24/7 support for critical infrastructure.
