Position Overview

Bloom KKCA Academy is an inclusive school that utilizes a tiered approach to student support to ensure all learners flourish.  The Learning Support Coordinator will work closely with the homeroom teachers to create a rich, equitable and inclusive campus and learning environments that are responsive to students’ strengths and needs.  In addition to working with students, the Learning Support Coordinator will play a key role in supporting staff in understanding diverse learners and in communicating with students, parents, caregivers and other key stakeholders.

The range of student needs includes AD/HD and Specific Learning Differences, amongst others.  The Learning Support Coordinator will also support English as an Additional Language (EAL) students and students who may need behavioral support.  The Learning Support Coordinator will use direct support (push-in or pull-out) and intervention to support learners, and the Chinese-medium and English-medium teaching teams, to maximize student achievement and well-being.

  • Vice Principal and Head of Chinese

 

General Duties:

  • To support the philosophy and pedagogical approach used by the School and to become thoroughly familiar with the curriculum associated with each teaching assignment

  • To work and plan collaboratively with colleagues in the development of course outlines and curriculum units 

  • To shape instruction appropriately so that it effectively motivates, inspires and challenges students   

  • To demonstrate variety and flexibility with teaching strategies in order to address individual student needs and learning styles

  • To use a rich array of assessment tools and strategies that are aligned with the curriculum plan and pedagogical approach

  • To evaluate all assessments in a timely manner and to provide constructive oral and/or written feedback to students

  • To maintain detailed and accurate assessment records

  • To prepare progress reports on each student at regular intervals as specified by the Director of Teaching & Learning

  • To attend and contribute to all scheduled staff meetings and professional development activities  

  • To participate in the Orientation Program that precedes the start of the school year

  • To communicate regularly with parents and to prepare for and attend all scheduled parent-teacher conferences

  • To perform supervision duties as assigned

  • To assume a shared responsibility for pastoral care and the social and emotional welfare of students in the School

  • To participate in or observe activities organized to benefit students, parents and colleagues of the School

 

Specific Duties:

  • To provide programs, direct instruction and support to students with learning support needs under the direction of the Director of Teaching & Learning

  • To create and manage a caring, engaging, purposeful and stimulating environment that is conducive to children’s learning

  • To work collaboratively with classroom teachers through observations and strategy development, in order to meet the needs of individual students

  • To communicate, update and consult with staff and parents regarding relevant learning support topics

  • To create Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and carry out activities / programs based on IEPs

  • To work with the Learning Support Team to handle incoming student referrals and facilitate the development of intervention plans for those students

  • To support class teachers in the implementation of personalized learning practices

  • To work in partnership with teachers to implement aspects of learning plans for groups of students including leading small group instruction and adapting lessons for individual students 

  • To manage groups or individual students ensuring differentiation of learning needs

  • To work to remove barriers to underachievement for all students, particularly those with learning support needs

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom (or similar) teaching experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or Bachelor’s Degree with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education or equivalent

  • M.A. or M.Ed., preferably in Special Education or similar

  • Native fluency in English 

  • Current teaching certification or licensure

  • Demonstrated academic excellence 

  • Satisfactory criminal background check

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching PYP, project-based learning, Reggio Emilia or similar programs

  • Special Education training or certification

  • Orton Gillingham training, or similar
