System Administrator (Ref.: 200213)

Applications are invited for appointment as Systems Administrator, to commence as soon as possible.

The appointee will join the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D24H), a start-up company incorporated by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) that is led by senior faculty members of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at HKU, and work in a highly motivated inter-disciplinary team to develop mobile applications, cloud computing solutions or other AI-enabled computational solutions for our multiple healthcare related projects in the R&D team.

Responsibilities:

• Configure, maintain, and monitor networking facilities settings to ensure the security and integrity of the network;
• Regularly monitor network performance, identify potential issues, and implement solutions to ensure optimal network functionality;
• Oversee the health of servers by regularly monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing necessary updates or repairs to maintain system efficiency;
• Set up and manage virtual machines (VMs) for various operational needs to ensure resource allocation and stability;
• Provide technical support to end-users and assist with daily PC issues, software installations, and troubleshooting network connectivity issues;
• Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, system changes, and help-desk resolutions to support team knowledge sharing and process improvement;
• Regularly apply software patches, updates, and configurations to all systems to maintain compliance with security standards; and
• Support solution implementation on AWS, GCP, Azure, Alibaba Cloud services.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines;
• At least 3 years of working experience in network and system administration;
• Hands-on experience with firewall configuration, network troubleshooting, and virtual machine setup;
• Experience in end-user support and resolving common hardware/software issues;
• Knowledge of virtualisation platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and familiar with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds) and server maintenance best practices;
• Good knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems;
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is preferred; and
• Experience in Cloud platform administration such as Azure, AWS, GCP, Alibaba Cloud would be an added advantage.

Applicants with more experience or higher qualification may be considered for appointment as Senior System Administrator.
