We are seeking an Educational Assistant to work with us at Kowloon Junior School.

The main aspect of this role will be to support a Year One student one-to-one but will also entail wider classroom support. This role is designed to provide social and emotional support to an individual student within an inclusive learning environment. 

The successful candidate will work closely with the Learning Enhancement Team (LET) team, external specialist support, and class teachers to foster the student's growth and well-being, ensuring they feel supported and empowered in their educational journey. 

Initially, this position will be offered as a two-term contract starting in January (or sooner if possible) until June 2025. 

Position Summary 

  • To assist in the education and supervision of an individual student within an inclusive learning environment; 
  • To support the student to maximize learning under the guidance of the class teacher, our Learning Enhancement Teacher (LET), and external specialist support as needed.

Support for Learning and Teaching

  • To assist with the educational, social, and emotional development of the student; 
  • To work collaboratively with the class teacher in the implementation of individualized support and interventions with support from our LET.
  • To closely liaise with the class teacher to communicate the student’s responses to various tasks or other data as may be requested with support from our LET.
  • To provide further support for the student outside of the classroom, including access to field trips, educational visits, whole-school activities, and unstructured break times.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be someone who has a positive, “can do” attitude and enthusiasm for providing quality support across the campus. He/She will have excellent organizational skills and relish working as part of a team.

With experience working with children with a diverse range of needs, particularly those with social and emotional challenges, he/she will bring valuable insights to the role. His/Her excellent spoken and written English, coupled with a warm personality and strong interpersonal skills, will enable him/her to communicate effectively with all members of the school community.

Essential

  • Experience working with primary school-aged children; 
  • A caring and committed approach to supporting students is essential; 
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn and implement leading practice;
  • Experience working with children with a diverse range of needs; 
  • Experience working with children with social/emotional needs.
  • Patience, dependability and creativity; 
  • Ability to collaborate well with others; 
  • Highly proficient in spoken English. 

Desirable

  • Experience working in a pastoral support role
  • Cantonese/Mandarin speaker
