Job Description

Assistant Programme Officer (at the rank of Clerk II) in the Department of Geography (Ref.: 531600)

We are looking for 1-2 Assistant Programme Officers to join the Department of Geography to support the administration of taught master programmes.

The Role

The appointee will be responsible for supporting the administration and development of the Master of Arts in China Development Studies programme, including:

  • Daily administrative support to the programme, including liaison with the Faculty of Social Sciences;
  • Admissions and programme operations;
  • Curriculum development and support to teaching activities;
  • Supporting field trips, academic and event activities;
  • Invigilating examinations;
  • Providing consultative support to students outside class;
  • Managing the web-based course Moodle;
  • Interacting with students and other stakeholders in the University;
  • Managing social media activities and alumni networks of the programme; and
  • Undertaking other duties as assigned by the Programme Director and the Head of Department.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A bachelor’s degree from a reputable university; applicants with master degree will be prioritised; 
  • At least 1 year of working experience in a university or comparable environment;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua and Cantonese);
  • Strong organisational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to work independently with initiative and motivation;
  • An appropriate level of IT proficiency; and
  • Experience in programme management, student support, and project management would be an advantage.

The appointment will be made on a one-year fixed-term contract, to commence as soon as possible, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
