Job Description

Job Purpose*

The position will be responsible for working in SPCA welfare hospital. SPCA welfare hospital provides medical and husbandry support for animals. Our serviced targets include animals from strayed-found, rescued, surrender, lost and welfare / prosecution cases. To work with our welfare veterinary surgeon, our work ranges from daily operation of veterinary hospital mainly by taking care of the hospitalized animals to emergency cases of accidentally injured animals. And the animals are not only dogs and cats, we provide services to birds, hamsters, rabbits, etc.

Roles & Responsibilities*

  • Providing treatments/care for animals under Welfare Department.
  • Assisting the rostered veterinary surgeon in their duties.
  • Assisting daily operations as directed by Welfare Supervisor / Senior Welfare Veterinary Assistant.
  • Participating in trainings or continuing education opportunities to stay updated on best practices in animal care.

I) Hospital

  • To take care of all the animals in Welfare Department including treatments and husbandry.
  • To assist the rostered Veterinary Surgeon for the operational procedures under standard operation protocols.
  • To work with various teams or department including the Kennel Keepers, Veterinary Assistants/Nurse, Customer Service Representative, Behaviour Training teams to provide the best care to animals.
  • To act as a liaison between Welfare Department and the public, including answering medical enquiries about animals, contacting and explaining the animals’ condition to the public by instruction of supervisor or veterinary surgeon, helping with see-outs for homing animals, etc.
  • To maintain tidiness and cleanliness of work areas.
  • To maintain the stock level of all work areas.
  • To understand the importance of working of shift duty.

II) Programmes

  • Assisting in any programmes under Welfare Department mainly for desexing and educating the public the animal welfare and responsible ownership including but not limited to:
  1. Cat Colony Care Programme (CCCP)
  2. Community Dog Programme / Mongrel Desexing Programme
  3. Spay and Neuter Vehicle (SNV)

III) Others

  • To assist with training of staff and volunteers if required
  • To assist in data collection and report production as directed by the supervisor or manager
  • Be aware of public relations issues involving the Welfare Department and liaise with AFCD, private vets and any other relevant bodies maintaining a good working relationship.
  • Assist in the promotion of the Society at public events.
  • To screen and handle all the surrender application and provide relevant alternative advice to owners if needed.
  • To assist euthanasia appointment if required.
  • To assist the Veterinary Surgeon in training the Inspectorate.
  • To assist in the welfare and prosecution case

Qualification*

  • Completed HKCEE/ DSE or relevant qualifications.

Requirements*

  • Good command of written and spoken English & Cantonese, spoken Putonghua will be advantage.
  • Experience in handling animals (preferred but not essential).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • A good team player and be able to work under pressure.
  • Able to work on shift duty in different locations so as on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays.
  • Genuine interest in the welfare of animals.
