Job Description

We expect the successful candidate to have:

  • Practical understanding and experience of construction of high voltage electrical infrastructure. This includes relevant compliance and safety in design and construction standards including the standards specific to Greater China.
  • Experience of working with one or port or charging network projects in a project delivery capacity.
  • Demonstrated practical understanding of development and appreciation of construction of high voltage infrastructure (e.g. cables, transformers, CBs, substations, BESS, AIS, GIS) from 33kV to 400kV.
  • Understanding of the marine power sector in Hong Kong and/or Greater China. Knowledge of the main players and regulators, with a broad understanding of their commercial and business strategies. Broad understating of marine sector initiatives such as electrification and decarbonisation within the industry.
  • Ideally, experience within the marine sector such as: a) project development or delivery experience, b) project development and understanding of ships power systems and/or shore power connections (power plug), c) floating power, and d) marine energy generation as an additional skill.
  • Ability to lead a team of consultants or internal members of staff delivering technical solutions and design for power systems.

The Job | Your Responsibilities

  • Project Engineering: Able and willing to self-deliver, hands-on, management of external consultants for project development from an engineering point of view. Working from initial engagement together with business development staff through to high-level concept development, pre-construction feasibility, supplier engagement, detailed design (for construction) of onshore located power networks.
  • Commercial Development: Thinking about the commercial context of an engineering project. Identifying opportunities within the engineering process to expand the service offering of Venture Energy and its affiliates.
  • Team Leadership: Own/lead on other engineering matters, running consultants or other team members.
  • Team Support: Support and collaborate with other teams working on the projects from a land, planning and grid connection perspective. Support senior management with budgeting and strategy setting.
     

 

The Candidate | Must Have

  • Technical savviness applied to new problems, innovative and experimental approach, open minded problem solving and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in high to mid low voltage technical design or delivery environment, with specific experience in the marine industry.
  • Knowledge of the marine requirements, regulations, technical standards, OEM offer, design requirements.
  • Project management and project leadership experience in energy and power sector.
  • Appreciation of the energy and power project lifecycles and risks across large scale and complex utility-scale projects
  • Experience in using BIM, 3D CAD / 3D design, digital twin software.
  • Leadership abilities and extensive project experience.
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team by providing guidance.
  • Able to work collaboratively across a team.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and project management skills in English/Chinese.
  • flexible attitude to work and the ability to travel regularly throughout Hong Kong (and Greater China)
  • Renewable energy project development experience is a plus.
  • Fluent in English and Putonghua (both written/spoken)
  • Bachelor’s degree from a reputable university.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools (ppt/xlsx)

The Candidate | Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated intelligence, curiosity, and an interest in building businesses are as important as having worked at a particular company or attended a particular school.
  • Some international experience, either educational or professional, is useful.
  • A working knowledge of corporate finance or a background in strategy/consulting/investment might be useful but is not essential.
  • Professional qualifications such as an MBA, CFA or CIMA might be useful, but far from essential
