We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the School of Nursing and Health Studies:

Course Developer (Nursing Therapeutics Mental Health Care (III)) (N&HS) (Ref: 24001ZY)

Course Code: NURS 2404 NBD

Course Title: Nursing Therapeutics: Mental Health Care (III)

Background

NURS 2404 NBD is a 12-credit unit course spanning over three terms. It is a middle level course in the Bachelor of Nursing Studies (Mental Health Care). The course aims at equipping the students in skills and knowledge of medical and surgical nursing, and first aid management. Also, it helps students to scaffold the knowledge in Chinese medicine, complementary and alternative medicine, infection control, occupational safety, mental health promotion and mental health policies. To have a better understanding of the concepts and theories, Chinese medicines is taught in Chinese/ Cantonese.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

1. Describe the nursing management for the clients:

a. suffering from carcinoma;

b. receiving palliative care;

c. experiencing communicable diseases;

d. experiencing surgical operation;

2. Describe the first aid management of victims in various emergency situations.

3. Describe the basic concepts of Chinese medicines, complementary and alternative medicine, and 

the role and responsibility of nurses in Chinese medicine.

4. Describe infection control strategies and occupational health and safety.

5. Explain the concepts of mental health promotion.

6. Evaluate the health care system, policies and the development of mental health care in Hong Kong.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Preparing a blue-print for the course;
  • Developing learning materials to of the course;
  • Developing assessments (specimen, assignments, examination paper and their corresponding marking schemes) to enhance students’ learning experience;
  • Developing protocols and scenarios for simulation; and
  • Preparing a course guide at the undergraduate level for the developed course.

Candidates

Candidates are expected to possess the following: 

  • A valid Registered Nurse practicing certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Hong Kong
  • A higher degree in Nursing or closely related discipline;
  • Good command of written English and Chinese;
  • Preferably with Teaching experience in nursing or a health-related discipline;
  • Preferably with substantial professional experience in the field of mental health nursing; and,
  • Preferably with experience in teaching distance learning courses and involving in the development of course materials.

Successful candidate(s) will be appointed on a freelance project basis.
