Project Engineer

We are looking for a Project Engineer in Hong Kong to help drive the full technical design management of product manufacturability, performance, and reliability of our products in a professional, resourceful, timely, and compliant manner.

The role

Working from our Hong Kong office location you will report to the HK General Manager. As the Project Engineer, you will be handling plastic toy project development, costing analysis, cost negotiation milestones, and engineering from concept to production. You will be the link for Casdon, working directly with our in-house R&D team in the UK, QA team in HK, and directly with our multiple global factories. You will be competent planning and developing mechanisms based on design requirements with a vital understanding of the technical manufacturing process. The ideal Project Engineer will be resourceful, solution-driven, innovative, able to influence and engage with all levels of stakeholders with an over-riding passion for product development and engineering.

Responsibilities

• Reporting to the HK General Manager and supporting the in-house R&D and QA teams in UK.
• Liaising with factories daily and overseeing the full design management of product development, performance, reliability, and manufacturability whilst adhering to Casdon’s exceptional product quality standards and specifications.
• Providing technical guidance and recommendations to project team members during the design process.
• Continuous problem solving of technical issues and problems that may arise during the project development stages.
• Ensuring manufacturing issues, improvements or updates to design / legislation standards are followed meticulously.
• Working directly with prototype houses either in an advisor role or hands on from time to time to cost, project manage and create multiple looks-like / works-like prototype sample builds for sales samples.
• Ensuring the development milestone dates are met by the design teams as required and tooling / engineering debug stages are completed on schedule.
• Project costing analysis and price negotiation.
• On-site assessment of initial production line setup for new projects.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including project reports, technical specifications (BOM, BOS), test reports and latest costings.
• Developing metrics and actions plans that drive continuous improvement of the cost, quality and cycle time of the product process assigned.
• Any other ah-hoc activities or assignments specific to the design, engineer, or team.
• Overseas travel is required.

Candidate requirements

• Degree/ higher diploma holder
• Minimum 4-6 years of relevant working experience in product / project engineering related function, preferably within the toy industry.
• Solid knowledge of plastic materials selection, injection moulding, roto moulding, blow moulding tooling design essential.
• All-round sourcing experience including various toys categories is preferred.
• Hands-on prototype making skills preferred.
• Previous experience working with prototype houses and overseeing multiple sample builds essential.
• Able to develop new mechanisms based on commercial project limitations.
• Verse in managing multiple projects across different functional teams and stakeholders.
• Proficient in SolidWorks, and other relevant design packages such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator etc.
• Sound knowledge of Electrical Engineering required.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills with fluency in English, Mandarin, and/or Cantonese; Written English and Chinese is a must.
• Self-motivator, team player, resourceful and the willingness to acquire new skills and grow with the organisation will be highly sought.
