Teacher of Design, Specialise in Food Technology - Island School

Island School is looking to appoint a full-time Teacher of Design Technology specialising in Food Technology to start in August 2025 at our recently relocated new campus located at Mid-levels, Hong Kong. 

Island School is a highly successful IB secondary school located in the heart of Hong Kong. Over 1300 students aged 11 to 18 study an innovative and exciting curriculum combining our self-designed courses, the MYP, IGCSE, and IB programs. 

This person will be responsible for delivering engaging and innovative lessons in food technology while also teaching various subjects across the technology faculty, including design technology. Your role will involve fostering creativity, critical thinking, and practical skills in students, preparing them for real-world applications in technology and design.

Responsibilities 

• Deliver Food Technology courses, including BTEC Hospitality, IGCSE (Food & Nutrition), and Elements.
• Teach is the wider department of Design Technology
• Oversee the Food Technology room and technicians, ensuring efficient organization and maintenance.
• Oversee and manage extracurricular activities to enhance student engagement and promote the subject area.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in Food Technology and related fields. 
• Leverage ongoing assessments to inform and adapt teaching practices.
• Offer consistent and constructive feedback to support student learning and progress.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or
• Bachelor’s Degree in any subject and a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) or equivalent
• Proven experience in teaching at the secondary level within a recognized educational organization, preferably within an IB school setting
• Strong understanding of current pedagogy, with excellent practice exemplified in own teaching
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team
• Proficient and experienced in utilizing data analysis and learning technologies
• Commitment to contribute to the extra-curricular activities of the school
• Commitment to fostering an active and creative learning environment
• Commitment to professional development and collaboration across the school
