Job Description

ERM seeks an exceptional individual to join as a Managing Consultant (Biodiversity) in our Capital Projects’ International Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Team based in Hong Kong. The role will be specifically to be the biodiversity subject matter expert for our projects, including ESIAs, Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD), and strategic client support project led out of the Hong Kong office in locations throughout the world, with a focus on renewables and mining where appropriate.

SCOPE:

In this role, you will contribute to the development and growth of ERM’s Capital Project Delivery business.  Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic, energetic and excellent communicators in both written and spoken English.  They must be comfortable dealing with clients and project stakeholders; and, have experience in designing, conducting, and assessing biodiversity surveys in the terrestrial and / or marine environment.

Candidates must have a passion for sustainability, a proven background in biodiversity, and be familiar with implementing IFC PS6.  You will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects, likely involving international travel, delivering sustainable solutions to clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act within a team under the role of Biodiversity Specialist to deliver ESIA consulting services (including Biodiversity Impact Assessments and related mitigation/plan reporting against IFC PS6) for private sector clients and financial institutions (eg IFC, ADB, World Bank) throughout Asia, and globally;
  • Take a key role in developing opportunities with clients
  • Lead or support the delivery of Biodiversity Surveys for projects in the field, supervising subcontractors, managing Health and Safety, and coordinating logistics, often in remote locations;
  • Liaise with academic institutions and governmental agencies responsible for research and issuance of regulatory standards on Biodiversity Impact Assessments;
  • Represent the interests of the company in all dealings, and communications with ERM clients, potential clients, contacts and other businesses in the ERM Group and ensure that client needs are met and work is conducted to the highest standard; and
  • Stay knowledgeable of trends and innovation in the field.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must have a postgraduate qualification in a biodiversity or conservation focussed environmental discipline;
  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience is essential;
  • Previous experience working with multi-disciplinary teams in an international consultancy environment;
  • Proven experience in designing, managing, and delivering biodiversity work in the terrestrial and / or marine environment;
  • Experience in delivering multi-disciplinary projects for the Renewable, Power, Mining, or Infrastructure Sectors;
  • A proven background in international impact assessment providing advice to private sector and / or government clients, with knowledge and proven experience in bankable projects, preferably with the World Banks, IFC, ADB or Equator Principal Banks;
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability and availability to travel internationally;
  • A strong ability to converse and write in English Language is a fundamental requirement; and,
  • Ability to converse and write in a second language would be considered a benefit.
