Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) provide technical support for the computer facilities of the Department;
(b) be responsible for the commissioning, maintenance and development of departmental cluster servers, student servers, the departmental internet web server, and virtual machines (VM) for the use of teaching and research software;
(c) provide support for inventory control of the Department;
(d) support, maintain and install all computing facilities in laboratories, staff offices and research offices;
(e) develop web application services for end users;
(f) obtain quotations for computer hardware, software and multimedia devices from suppliers, and make qualified recommendations as well as outline plans for future development and upgrades; and
(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a higher diploma or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. Preference will be given to those with a recognised degree;
(b) at least three years of relevant post-qualification experience;
(c) experience in setting up and maintaining network and servers, with experience in repairing electronic instruments being an advantage;
(d) proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and experience with backend technologies such as Java, Python and PHP, along with a strong understanding of database management and responsive design principles;
(e) sound knowledge of computer hardware, Operating Systems, and most commonly used applications;
(f) knowledge of AutoCAD and Computational Fluid Dynamics, with familiarity in VM being an advantage;
(g) the ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively;
(h) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua; and
(i) excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
